The first thing I remember is the smell of the sea. Green... gray ... white foam and wind. Beyond it all was always land, yet the land was never quite as vast and never quite as honest as the water. If I look back then, maybe I would have been happier if I had stayed, walking waves with the gulls. However, even the sea can be set aflame.

Enough of that. I have already come to terms with my past, I think. It wasn't long and I just don't believe in looking back over my shoulder. I like books now just fine. I have enough to eat, a place to sleep, friends... Just...

When I close my eyes on a summer day, I feel like I must have... forgotten... something.
